Leadership is something that is created by leaders, not by position or title, but by action and example. Sponsored by Jeff Borkenhagen and MidCountry Bank, Matt Evers (agent for MidCountry Insurance) had the privilege of participating in a leadership training program through the Hutchinson Leadership Institute.
A staple in the Hutchinson community, the program is hosted by the Chamber of Commerce, and helps participants translate their knowledge into action. Evers considered it a great honor to participate. “It would take more time than I have to explain what I learned from this awesome adventure,” he shared. “I have a newfound respect for leaders in our day-to-day living environment - on every level, personally and professionally.”
The Leadership Institute sessions are designed to engage participants in discussions that foster leadership in three areas:
- PERSONAL - understand the role personality, assertiveness, and self-esteem can play
- TEAM – learn about team development, dynamics, and working together towards a goal
- CIVIC - learn about Hutchinson’s dynamic history and look at volunteerism and the wide non-profit spectrum that influences the community
Chris Hunter, MidCountry Insurance Agency Manager endorsed Evers’ participation. “Matt has always had a desire to invest in the community,” Hunter explained. “This program deepened his passion and commitment and provided a wonderful opportunity for Matt to grow professionally and personally; ultimately benefitting not only Matt, but also MidCountry’s team and customers, and the community of Hutchinson.”
